The most important thing to do right away is to take a cloth and blot the stain as soon as possible! Do not rub the stain as this will only spread it further. Blot the stain gently with a clean cloth to soak up as much of the wine as possible.
Next, apply detergent directly to stain and let it sit for 10 minutes or so. This gives the detergent enough time to work its magic and begin to break down the stain so it can be washed away.
Once you've applied detergent to the stain, fill a tub or bucket with warm water and mix in a few drops of detergent. Place your espadrilles in the bowl and let them soak for about an hour to really give the detergent a chance to work its way into the fibers of the fabric.
After an hour, remove the shoes from the soaking solution and rinse them off with cold water. Then, lay the shoes flat on an old towel and let them air dry.
If any of the stain remains, you can spot treat it again by applying a small amount of detergent directly to the stain and then rinsing. To finish, lay the shoes flat on an old towel and allow them to air dry.
Although it can be frustrating when you spill white wine on your espadrilles, the good news is that it doesn't have to be a hopeless situation! With the steps outlined above, you can clean white wine stains from espadrilles quickly and easily.
