If you’ve ever had the unfortunate experience of spilling white wine on your down jacket, you know how difficult it can be to get out. Most regular household cleaners are too harsh and can damage the fabric of your coat, making the stain even worse.

Luckily, there is a safe and effective method for removing white wine stains from down jackets without any extra harm or damage.
When you first spill wine, the most important thing is to blot up as much of the liquid as possible. Use a clean cloth or paper towel and press on the stain gently, applying pressure to draw out as much of the liquid as possible.
Fill a sink or bowl with warm water and then add a capful of dish soap. Place the stained area of the jacket into the water and let it soak for about an hour. After an hour, remove the jacket from water and squeeze out the excess liquid.
Spray the stain liberally with a laundry pretreater like Shout. This type of product helps break down the stain and makes it easier to remove.
Use your washer’s gentle cycle and cold water. Add a mild detergent to load and then wash the jacket. When the cycle is complete, check to see if the stain is still visible. If it is, you may need to repeat the process.
Tumble dry jacket on low heat or air-dry it flat on a towel.
