The first step is to blot up as much of the spilled liquid as possible. When dealing with white wine spills, it’s important to soak up as much of the wine as you can to keep stain from setting in. Place a dry cloth over the stain and press firmly. Make sure to use a cloth that won’t bleed dye onto the fabric.
Once you’ve blotted as much of wine as you can, next step is to mix a solution of 1 part white vinegar and 2 parts cold water. Dip a soft cloth into the solution and gently dab stained area. Don’t rub or scrub stain as this can cause damage to the fabric.
At this point, you may need to repeat the process a few times until the stain has been lifted. Once you’ve removed as much of the stain as possible, rinse the area thoroughly with cold water. Blot the area with a clean dry cloth to remove any remaining moisture.
Finally, place the fabric in the sun to dry. The ultraviolet rays of the sun will help to further remove any remaining traces of the stain and will also help to restore fabric’s original color. After the fabric has dried, inspect it for any traces of the stain and repeat the process if necessary.
Once you’ve successfully removed the white wine stain from your cotton gingham, be sure to clean area again with a gentle detergent, such as Woolite, before using it again. This will ensure that all traces of stain are completely gone.
