The first thing to do is act quickly. White wine stains tend to be easier to remove when caught early. Place the stained area of dress in cold water right away to prevent the stain from setting in. Soak the fabric for fifteen minutes and then pat it with a damp cloth to remove as much of the stain as possible.
If there is still some of the stain left, mix a teaspoon of liquid detergent with a cup of lukewarm water. Gently rub the mixture onto the stain using a soft-bristled brush. Again, soak fabric in lukewarm water for 15 minutes. Rinse it in lukewarm water, then pat it dry with a clean cloth.
If the stain is proving to be stubborn, you can use a stronger solution of equal parts white vinegar, dishwashing liquid, and lukewarm water. Again, gently rub mixture into the stain. Soak it in cold water for 10-20 minutes then rinse it with lukewarm water. Pat the fabric dry with a clean cloth.
For more difficult stains, use a commercial spot cleaning product. Always read instructions on the label to ensure its suitability for your fabric type. For best results, test the product on a small, hidden area first.
Finally, if none of these methods work, you may need to take your dress to a professional cleaner for further help.
