Step by Step Instructions
- To start, first use cold running water to flush away the excess liquid.
- Next, make a simple cleaning solution of 1 teaspoon of pH balanced detergent along with 1 quart of warm water (but no hotter than 40°C).
- Mix the fluid together until it is nice and sudsy, then apply the mixture to the stained area and gently rub it into the fiber using a soft brush. Do not use hot water — the heat could set the stain, making it near impossible to get out.
- Rinse the area again with cold running water and repeat process until the stain fades.
- If the stain persists, mix a paste of water and cornstarch and apply it to the wine stain. Allow it to dry. When it dries, brush off cornstarch and then vacuum up the remainder.
- Afterward, turn your Chantilly lace inside-out and launder it in cold water on a gentle cycle. If necessary, repeat the laundering process until the stain has been completely removed.
Additional Tips
- Act Quickly: The earlier you treat the stain, easier it will be to remove. So, try to tackle wine stains as soon as possible.
- Avoid Heat: After applying cleaning solutions, make sure to rinse area with cold water or the heat from warm water may activate proteins in the wine, making it much harder to remove.
- Check for Colorfastness: Before applying any type of cleaning solution, conduct a patch test on a small, hidden area just to make sure material won't fade or bleed color when wet.
