Basic Cleaning
- Start by blotting the stain with a clean, absorbant sponge or cloth.
- Mix up a solution of warm water and liquid laundry detergent.
- Use a soft bristled brush to work the soap into the fabric.
- Rinse away the soap with cool water and blot the area with a dry, clean cloth.
- If the stain is still visible, repeat steps 1-4 until it has been removed.
Advanced Cleaning Techniques
- For tougher stains, try adding a few tablespoons of white vinegar or lemon juice to the detergent solution.
- To remove any lingering odors, add a few drops of essential oils to the detergent mix.
- For really tough stains, you may need to use a stronger cleaning product such as oxygenated bleach or an enzyme-based cleaner. Always read and follow the instructions on the product packaging.
After Care Tips
- Once the stain has been removed, you may want to consider pretreating the area to help prevent future stains.
- Be sure to air dry your calico properly after cleaning. Hang it in direct sunlight if possible to help brighten and freshen the fabric.
