The first step when you notice a fresh wine stain is to immediately use cold water to rinse the fabric. Simply running cold water through the back side of the fabric can help remove much of the stain. Excess liquid should also be gently blotted away with a cloth or sponge.
After rinsing, create a vinegar and water solution. Using a 1:1 ratio (1 cup of vinegar for each 1 cup of water), mix the two together and saturate the stain. Leave the solution on the fabric for several minutes and then rinse it off.
If the stain still persists after the vinegar and water rinse, use a mild laundry detergent and cold water to spot clean the area. Again, use a cloth or sponge to gently scrub the area and blot away any excess liquid.
When the wine stain is older and has already dried, use a damp cloth to apply rubbing alcohol to the fabric. Rubbing alcohol is great at breaking up older stains. Allow the rubbing alcohol to sit on the fabric for several minutes, but not for more than 15. Next, use a mixture of laundry detergent and warm water to spot clean the area.
Following spot cleaning, thoroughly rinse the fabric with warm water and dry it with a clean towel. If stain is still present after all of these steps, contact a professional dry cleaner for assistance.
Although white wine stains on brocade fabrics can look daunting, removing them is surprisingly easy. By quickly rinsing fabric, applying a vinegar and water solution, or using rubbing alcohol, most stains can be removed with minimal effort. And if all else fails, a professional dry cleaner will be able to assist you in getting your brocade fabric looking new again.
