Gather Supplies

In order to begin cleaning your stained bikini, it’s important to gather a few supplies, including:

  • Borax, or an equivalent laundry detergent booster
  • A clean cloth
  • Cool water
  • White vinegar

Step 1: Preparing the Stain

The first step in removing a white wine stain from a bikini begins before you’ve even begun cleaning it. As soon as the stain has occurred, you should immediately rinse the area with cool water. This helps to remove as much of the wine as possible and prevent it from settling deeper into the fabric.

Step 2: Soaking the Bikini

Once you’ve thoroughly rinsed the stained area, it’s time to soak the bikini in room-temperature water and borax or a laundry detergent booster. Use one teaspoon of borax to every quart of water and allow the bikini to sit in the solution for at least fifteen minutes.

Step 3: Treat the Stain

After the bikini has soaked, take a clean cloth and treat the stained area with white vinegar. Dab the area, rather than rubbing or scrubbing, to work the vinegar into the clothing without further damaging the material. Give the clothing another splash of cool water to rinse away the vinegar and see if the stain remains.

Step 4: Repeat Steps as Needed

If the stain still remains after completing the previous steps, repeat them until the stain is gone. Certain fabrics, especially those that are more sensitive, may take several tries before the stain completely disappears.
