Start by blotting up as much of liquid as you can with a clean, white cloth or paper towel. Be sure to blot, rather than rub or scrub, since rough motions can actually cause stain to spread further into the fabric.

Mix one cup of cold water with one teaspoon of mild detergent. Dip a white cloth in the soapy mixture, then gently dab at the stained area. Take care not to press too hard. Move cloth in small circles.

Once you’ve worked the soap into the stain, rinse the fabric completely with clean water and blot dry with a white cloth. Repeat the entire process until stain has been removed.

If the stain still won’t budge, try soaking the fabric in a mixture of one quart of warm water, one teaspoon of ammonia, and one tablespoon of dishwashing liquid. Soak for no more than 30 minutes and rinse thoroughly after.

After stain is gone, allow the fabric to air dry. Once it’s dry, give the fabric a once-over with a lint roller for any remaining residue.

With these simple steps, you can make white wine stains a thing of the past!
