The faster you treat a stain, the easier it will be to remove. If you have a stain remover or pre-treat product at home, you can use that first on the stain. If not, move on to step two.
If the stain has set in, using white vinegar can be a great way to break it up before attempting to clean it. Start by mixing one-part vinegar with one-part water and using a cotton swab or towel to dab the stain with the solution. This should help break up the stain until it is ready to be scrubbed away.
Once the stain has been pre-treated with either a pre-treatment product or white vinegar, it's time to scrub it out with dish soap and warm water. Start by wetting the affected area and then applying a small amount of dish soap directly to stain. Using a damp cloth or towel, scrub the area in a circular motion to lift stain from the fabric. Rinse the cloth or towel frequently and repeat the process until the stain is gone.
If the stain remains after the previous steps, you can use white toothpaste to help treat it. Apply a dab of toothpaste directly to the stain and use a damp cloth to rub it into the fabric. Let sit for a few minutes and then rinse with warm water. Repeat until the stain is gone.
Oftentimes, even after the stain is removed, it might still leave behind an unsightly discoloration. To help fade this discoloration, simply wash the garment as you would normally. Be sure to follow the washing instructions on the label as some fabrics may not be able to take a hot wash.
