Things You'll Need Before Cleaning

  • White cloths
  • Oxygen-based bleach
  • White vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Distilled water
  • Iron

Step 1: Blot the Stain with a Cloth

The first step to removing the vomit stain is to use a clean, white cloth to blot the stain. Do not rub the stain, as this may cause the stain to spread further. Blot stain until all the liquid is removed.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain

Combine a tablespoon of oxygen-based bleach with cold water. Apply the mixture to vomit stain using a white cloth. Allow the mixture to set for at least 30 minutes before proceeding.

Step 3: Preparing the Cleaning Solution

In a bowl, combine one tablespoon of white vinegar, one tablespoon of dish soap, and two cups of distilled water. Stir the ingredients together until they are fully combined.

Step 4: Clean the Stain

Dip a white cloth into the cleaning solution and dab vomit stain thoroughly. Do not rub the stain, as this may cause the stain to spread further. Dab spot until it is completely saturated.

Step 5: Rinse the Stain

Run cold water over the stain to remove any remaining cleaning solution.

Step 6: Dry the Stain

Allow the tie to air dry. The best way to do this is to hang the tie up on a clothes hanger in a well-ventilated area.

Step 7: Iron the Stain

Once tie is completely dry, iron the area using a warm iron on a cotton setting. Be sure to iron the back side of the tie as well to ensure that all the vomit stain is removed.

Tips and Warnings

  • Do not use hot water when pre-treating or cleaning the stain, as hot water may set the stain.
  • Do not rub the stain, as this may cause the stain to spread further.
  • Do not machine wash the tie, as this may damage fabric.
