Before you begin, it’s important to make sure you have the right cleaning supplies at hand. You’ll need a teaspoon of washing powder detergent, white vinegar, a few sponges or cloths and a vacuum cleaner.
First, use a vacuum cleaner to remove as much of the vomit stain as possible. Be sure to get down into the fibers as much as you can and clean both sides of fabric if necessary.
Next, mix a teaspoon of detergent with a cup of warm water in a bowl. Dip one of the sponges or cloths into the mixture and apply it to stained area. Gently work it over the area, but don’t scrub too hard so you don’t damage the fabric.
Once you’ve worked the detergent into fabric, rinse out the sponge in lukewarm water and remove the detergent residue. Then pour a cup of lukewarm water mixed with a tablespoon of white vinegar onto the stained area and gently blot it up with a clean cloth or a sponge.
After you’ve worked vinegar mixture into the fabric, let it sit for 10-15 minutes before wiping or blotting it off with a cloth or towel. Finally, hang the tartan outside in the sun to dry thoroughly. You may need to repeat this process a few times if stain is particularly stubborn.
