How to Get Rid of Vomit Stains on Swimwear
Nobody wants to be that person at pool. But if you have vomit stains on your swimwear, don’t worry, it can be cleaned! Here are some steps to help.

Before Cleaning
- Remove any solid matter from the fabric.
- Identify the type of material. Check the care label and washing instructions.
- Test a small area of the fabric prior to cleaning the entire piece.
Cleaning Methods
For Synthetic Fabrics (like Polyester):
- Mix together 1 teaspoon of mild liquid detergent, 1 teaspoon of white vinegar, and ½ cup of warm water.
- Dip a soft cloth into mixture and dab the stain. Do not scrub.
- Rinse with cold water.
- If the stain remains, mix together ¼ teaspoon of chlorine bleach and a cup of warm water and add it to the stained area.
- Let sit for 15 minutes before rinsing with cold water.
- After rinsing, machine wash according to garment’s instructions.
For Natural Fabrics (like cotton):
- Mix together 1 tablespoon of natural liquid detergent and ¼ cup of white vinegar.
- Add 1 cup of warm water.
- Dip a soft cloth into the mixture and dab the stain. Do not scrub.
- Rinse with cold water.
- If the stain remains, mix together 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of sodium chloride.
- Add 1 teaspoon of detergent and 1 cup of warm water.
- Pour the mixture onto stained area.
- Let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing with cold water.
- After rinsing, machine wash according to garment’s instructions.
Additional Tips
- Pre-treat the affected area with a pre-wash stain remover prior to washing.
- Always use cold water when treating a stain, as hot water can set the stain.
- Avoid using products that contain bleach, especially on colored fabrics.
- If the stain persists, repeat the cleaning process.
