Whether it’s caused by a wayward guest or an unfortunate accident, a vomit stain on your pool liner can be a major annoyance. Fortunately, there are a few steps you can take to get your pool looking like new again in no time.

Remove as much solid material as possible

The first order of business is to remove as much of the solid material as possible. Wear gloves and use a skimmer to scoop out large chunks. Then, use an absorbent material, such as a paper towel or a rag, to pick up the smaller pieces. Be sure to dispose of all materials properly when you’re done.

Clean with chlorine

Once you’ve removed the solid material, it’s time to disinfect the area. The best way to do this is with chlorine, which can be added directly to the water. For best results, add the chlorine in concentrations of up to 50 parts per million. Allow the chlorine to sit in the pool for several hours before draining it and testing the water's chlorine levels.

Scrub with a nylon brush

After the chlorine has had a chance to work its magic, you can scrub the area with a nylon brush. This will help break down any remaining residue and help restore your pool liner to its former glory. Start at one end of the stain and carefully scrub in small circles until the entire area is clean.

Rinse away the residue

Once you’ve finished scrubbing, you’ll need to rinse away any remaining residue. Simply fill a bucket of clean water and pour it over the affected area. You may need to repeat this process several times in order to completely remove all of the residue.

Replace water

Once you’ve finished cleaning the stain, it’s time to replace the water in your pool. Drain the existing water and then refill with fresh, clean water. Be sure to test pH and chlorine levels afterwards to ensure the water is safe for swimming.
