What You'll Need
- Paper towels
- White vinegar
- Laundry detergent
- Clean cloth
- Cold water
Steps to Take
- Use paper towels to absorb as much of the vomit as possible by gently pressing the paper towels on the affected area.
- Mix one part white vinegar and two parts cold water in a container.
- Soak the affected area of the sleep shirt in the solution for 15 minutes.
- Using a clean cloth, rub the affected area in circular motions while it is still soaked in the solution to further break down the vomit.
- Rinse the area with cold water and then apply laundry detergent directly onto the stain and rub it in.
- Allow the garment to sit for up to 10 minutes to give the detergent time to work.
- Rinse the garment with cold water and check the area to make sure the stain has been removed.
- Repeat the steps above if necessary.
- Once the stain has been removed, machine wash garment using hottest setting recommended for the fabric.
Tips
- White vinegar works best on small, fresh vomit stains.
- Don’t use warm or hot water when removing vomit stains as this may cause the stain to set.
- Opt for a liquid laundry detergent rather than a powdered one.
- If stain persists after following the steps above, soak the garment in a mixture of oxygen-based bleach and cold water for up to 30 minutes or until the stain has been completely removed.
