Gather Supplies

Before you begin cleaning process, you will need to gather a few supplies:

  • A sink or large bowl
  • Cold water
  • Oxygen-based bleach (e.g., OxiClean)
  • Laundry detergent
  • White vinegar

Remove Any Solids From Garment

The first step is to remove any solid particles that may be present in the vomit stain. It's best to do this as quickly as possible before any liquid seeps into the fabric. You can use a spoon or something similar to scrape away solid particles. Once you're done, you can proceed to the next step.

Soak the Stain in Cold Water and Oxygen-Based Bleach

Fill a sink or a large bowl with cold water and add recommended amount of oxygen-based bleach, such as OxiClean. Soak the garment for up to one hour before rinsing it in cold water. It's important that you don't use hot water, as this type of fabric is more delicate and hot water can damage it.

Wash in the Laundry Machine

Once you have finished soaking the garment, you can wash it in the washing machine like you would normally do. Use a mild detergent and a delicate cycle on the machine, and set it to cold water. You can also add a cup of white vinegar during the rinse cycle to help remove the odor of the vomit.

Air-Dry the Garment

Once the cycle has been completed, air-dry the garment on a clothesline or a flat surface. Don't put it in the dryer, as this can cause the fabric to shrink.
