Step 1: Blot Up the Stain

Using a clean, white cloth, blot up as much of the vomit stain as possible. Don’t rub the fabric or it could cause stain to spread. Repeat this step until almost all of the stain has been removed.

Step 2: Treat the Stain

Mix one teaspoon of a gentle liquid dishwashing soap with one tablespoon of white vinegar and a one-half cup of warm water. Gently apply the mixture to the stain using a clean cloth. Allow your solution to sit for a few minutes, then blot with a dry cloth.

Step 3: Rinse with Water

Rinse the stained area with cool water and blot with a dry cloth. If the stain is still visible after the rinsing and blotting, go to step four.

Step 4: Apply an Enzyme Spotter or Detergent Solution

Mix one-quarter teaspoon of enzyme spotter (available at most stores) with one cup of warm water. Alternatively you can use a detergent solution made of one teaspoon of a gentle liquid dishwashing soap and one tablespoon of white vinegar with one-half cup of warm water similar to the mixture used in step two. Blot the solution on the stain with a clean cloth.

Step 5: Rinse Again

Rinse the affected area with cool water and blot with a dry cloth. If stain remains, repeat steps four and five.

Step 6: Air-Dry

Allow the garment or fabric to air-dry completely. If the stained area remains, take fabric to a professional cleaner immediately.
