WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Dishwashing liquid
  • White vinegar
  • Stain remover
  • Old toothbrush
  • Towels

STEP 1: REMOVE THE VOMIT

As soon as you notice a vomit stain on your Ralph Lauren item, gently scrape off any visible chunks with a spoon. Then, use a damp cloth to blot the area and pick up any remaining residue. Make sure you only apply light pressure; you don’t want to rub the stain further into the fabric.

STEP 2: PRE-TREAT THE STAIN

Now that the bulk of vomit is gone, use a mixture of one tablespoon of dishwashing liquid and one tablespoon of white vinegar to pre-treat the stain. Apply the mixture to the stained area with a soft cloth or an old toothbrush, and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes.

STEP 3: WASH THE ITEM

Once the pre-treatment is done, it’s time to wash item. Check the care label first, as different fabrics may require different washing instructions. If the item is machine-washable, then you should use a mild detergent and a cool rinse cycle. If it is dry-clean only, you will need to take it to a specialty cleaner.

STEP 4: USE A STAIN REMOVER

Once garment is washed, check for any remaining stains. If any remain, use a quality stain remover according to the directions on the package. Again, make sure you are following the care instructions for the fabric. After the stain remover has had time to work, launder the item one more time.

STEP 5: DRY THE ITEM

Finally, lay the item flat to dry or hang it on a clothing line. Never put a stained item in the dryer, as this can set the stain and make it almost impossible to remove.
