Removing Fresh Vomit Stains

If you're dealing with a fresh vomit stain, it's essential to act quickly to prevent it from setting in. Start by blotting up as much of the vomit as possible with damp paper towels. Then, fill a container with cold water and add a teaspoon of mild, biodegradable liquid detergent. Gently dip your raincoat into the soapy water and swish it around. Once you've finished, gently press on stained area with a sponge. Rinse it off with cold water and leave it to air dry.

Tackling Difficult Vomit Stains

To tackle older, more difficult vomit stains, you'll need to use a more robust cleaning solution. Create a mixture by combining 1/4 cup baking soda, 2 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid, and 1 quart of warm water. Test solution on a small area first to make sure it won't discolor the fabric. Then, soak a cloth in the mixture and blot stain until it's gone. Rinse the raincoat in cold water immediately and then lay it out to dry. You may have to repeat the process a few times if the stain is particularly stubborn.

Preventing Future Vomit Stains

You'll want to make sure the vomit has been completely removed before storing your raincoat away. This will help prevent any lingering odors or bacteria. If possible, hang the raincoat up in an open space rather than stuffing it away in a drawer or closet. It's also a good idea to spray the raincoat with a fabric protectant. This will create an invisible barrier that will help repel moisture and stains. Be sure to spot clean stains as soon as you notice them. Don't let them sit for too long as this could damage your fabric.
