We've all been there. Whether it's after a wild night out with friends or a stomach bug making the rounds, sometimes vomit just can't be avoided. Though it's an unpleasant experience, it doesn't have to mean that your parka is ruined forever.
The first step is to rinse out the vomit stain with cold water. If possible, try to remove as much of the vomit material as possible before attempting to start cleaning. Once stain has been rinsed out, allow it to air-dry.
Once the parka is dry, use a pre-treating spray or detergent to help remove any remaining stains. Some options include liquid laundry detergent, a homemade solution of white vinegar and baking soda, or a commercial stain remover product. Spray or rub in the pre-treatment, then allow it to sit for about 30 minutes.
After allowing the pre-treatment to sit, put your parka in the washing machine on a regular cycle, using hottest water safe for the fabric. Add in a good laundry detergent and a scoop of oxygen bleach, then make sure to double check the care label of your parka to make sure you are selecting the right settings.
Once wash cycle is complete, hang the parka on a line or clothes drying rack, and allow it to air-dry naturally. You can also tumble-dry the parka on a low heat setting if the fabric allows.
If there are still lingering odor or stains, use a fabric freshener spray to eliminate them. Additionally, you may need to repeat Steps Two and Three until vomit stain is completely gone.
