Time is of Essence

If you want to get vomit stains out of your overalls, you need to act fast. Time is of essence when it comes to stain removal. The best way to attack a recent mess is to start by blotting the area with a paper towel or cloth. Be sure to gently blot the area instead of scrubbing; vigorous rubbing can actually worsen the stain.

Cleaning Solution to the Rescue

Once initial mess has been blotted away, next step is to prepare a cleaning solution. There are several options depending on fabric of your overalls:

  • For cotton material, mix one tablespoon of dishwashing liquid, one tablespoon of white vinegar, and two cups of warm water.
  • For synthetic fabrics, mix one teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent and one cup of warm water.

Once you have your cleaning solution ready, apply it directly to the stain and let it sit for 10 minutes. You can also use a soft-bristled brush to help loosen the stain if needed. After the time has elapsed, rinse the area with cold water and blot it with a cloth.

Drying and Finishing Steps

Once overalls have been rinsed, you can either air dry them or tumble dry them on medium heat. If you choose to air dry them, be sure to turn them inside out to prevent fading and shrinkage. After drying, examine area to ensure that stain has been removed.
