What You Will Need

  • Paper towels or cloth rags
  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Laundry detergent
  • Cold water

Step One: Blotting the Stained Area

The first step is to blot up as much of the liquid as possible with a paper towel or a clean cloth rag. Do not rub or scrub the affected area, as this can cause the stain to spread and make it more difficult to remove. Blot the area gently until most of the liquid has been removed.

Step Two: Add Baking Soda

Sprinkle baking soda over the stained area and let it absorb liquid that is still present. Once done, use a dry cloth to wipe away the baking soda. This will help remove any lingering odor as well.

Step Three: Soak in White Vinegar and Water Solution

Mix together one part white vinegar to four parts cold water in a bowl and soak the stained area for 15 minutes. The acidity of the vinegar will break down the stain and make it easier to remove.

Step Four: Pretreat with Detergent

After soaking, pretreat the stains with laundry detergent before washing. Work the detergent into the fabric, then rinse with cold water.

Step Five: Wash in the Machine

Place the linen in the washing machine and select a cold cycle. Allow the item to run through its full cycle, then hang it up to dry. Once linen is completely dry, inspect the area to make sure the stain has been removed.
