Using a spoon or butter knife, carefully scrape away as much of vomit as possible. Be sure to not rub the stain, as it will only smear it further. If the vomit is dry and caked in, use a vacuum cleaner or soft brush to help loosen the particles.
Mix a solution of vinegar and baking soda and apply it to the stained area. Let this sit for approximately 10 minutes, then wipe away with a damp cloth. This will help lift the stain and remove any odors associated with the throw up.
With a clean cloth, dab a small amount of laundry detergent on the stain and gently rub. This should help break down and lift out the remaining residue. Once you are satisfied with the results, rinse the area with warm water and blot dry.
Leave your handbag in an open and well-ventilated area to allow it to air dry completely. Don't rush this step, as lingering moisture can lead to new stains or even mildew. For best results, use a fan or hair dryer and direct airflow toward the affected area.
Even if the stain is gone, there may still be an odor lingering. To neutralize this, sprinkle some baking soda on the area and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Vacuum up the baking soda afterwards.
In the future, it is best to spot treat stains as soon as possible. Use a handkerchief or napkin to absorb as much of the liquid as possible, then follow steps outlined above. It is also worthwhile to check the material of the handbag before cleaning, as some materials may not be suitable for certain products.
