Using paper towels or a cloth, blot the area to remove as much liquid from the vomit stain as you can. Do not rub the affected area, as this will increase the chances of the stain setting into material.
Mix a solution of dish soap and warm water in a bowl. Apply the mixture to the affected area using a spray bottle. Be sure to lightly mist the area with the solution, not douse it. Leave the pretreatment on the stain for at least 10 minutes.
After the pretreatment has been on the stain for at least 10 minutes, machine-wash the item on its highest temperature setting. This will ensure that the stain is removed without damaging the item.
Once the item has been washed and rinsed, hang the item to dry. Do not put item in the dryer, as the heat can cause discoloration and shrinkage.
To remove any lingering odor from stain, sprinkle baking soda over the affected area. Let the baking soda sit for several hours before vacuuming up the excess powder. This will help to freshen up the item and remove any unpleasant smells.
