The first thing you need to do when cleaning vomit stains from Dobby is assess the situation. Does it appear to be a fresh stain, or could it have been there for awhile? If it’s a fresh stain, the best way to tackle it is to quickly act. Use a dry absorbent cloth or paper towels to blot the stained area as much as possible, as this will help to prevent the liquid from seeping into the fabric fibers.
Once the stain has been blotted, create a cleaning solution by mixing one teaspoon of mild liquid detergent with two cups of cold water. Make sure the detergent is unscented and free of bleach and other harsh chemicals that can damage delicate fabrics. Dip a clean white cloth into the solution and gently dab it onto the vomit stain, working from the outside in so as not to spread the stain further. Rinse the area with cold water and repeat.
If the stain has been in place for some time, pretreat it with a enzyme-based detergent before beginning the cleaning process. Work the detergent into the stain and cover it with a damp cloth for at least 15 minutes before rinsing it out. From there, follow the steps above to get the stain out.
Finally, to remove any lingering odor from the vomit, set the fabric aside and sprinkle baking soda over the stained area. Let it sit for 30 minutes before vacuuming it up. Then, launder the fabric in the washing machine and let it air dry.
For tougher vomit stains, take the fabric to a dry cleaner to get stain removed professionally. With right methods and a bit of patience, you can easily get those vomit stains out of the fabric.
