The best way to remove vomit stains from your Converse depends largely on type of material your shoe is made from. Canvas is most common material for Converse shoes, but leather and suede models are also available. No matter what material your shoes are made from, however, you should always begin by scraping off any solid chunks using an old butter knife.
If your Converse are made of canvas, the most effective way to remove vomit stains is to use a mixture of warm water and dish soap. Start by dampening a clean cloth with the warm, soapy water and blotting the stained area until the vomit is dissolved. Once the liquid is gone, use a soft bristled scrub brush to gently scrub the area, then rinse with warm water. For deeper stains, a 1:1 mixture of white vinegar and warm water may be more effective.
To clean vomit from leather or suede Converse, start by blotting the area with a dry cloth to remove any excess moisture. Next, use a piece of clean white cloth and some gentle leather cleaner to scrub the stain. When finished, dry the area with a clean dry cloth. For deeper stains, you may need to repeat this process several times.
Vomit stains can be stubborn, and no matter what material your shoes are made from, some spots may remain. If that’s case, try using a commercial stain remover such as OxiClean or a combination of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Apply these mixtures directly to affected area and scrub gently before rinsing with warm water.
If all else fails, take your Converse to a professional shoe repair shop or a local dry cleaner. They will have the correct tools and cleaning products to get rid of those pesky vomit stains and make your shoes look good as new.
