The first step is to pre-treat the stain. Start by blotting up the excess vomit from the fabric using a paper towel or other absorbent cloth. Do not rub or scrub the stain, as this will only make it worse.
Once the excess vomit has been removed, mix a solution of one part dish soap and one part cool water. Using a clean cloth, gently dab the mixture onto the stain and let it sit for 10 minutes.
Next, launder the shirt in a washer on the hottest setting possible. Make sure to add a scoop of detergent, as well as a cup of baking soda. The baking soda will help to further remove the odor associated with vomit.
Once the cycle is finished, transfer the shirt to the dryer on the highest setting. The hot air will help to fully remove the stain.
Once the shirt has been dried, check to make sure that the stain is gone. If it is still visible, repeat steps one and two until it disappears.
If all else fails, take the garment to a professional dry cleaner for further treatment.
Nobody likes having to deal with vomit stains, but with these simple tips, you can easily and quickly get them out of your button down shirt. Good luck!
