Start by blotting away as much of the vomit as you can with a washcloth or paper towels. Don’t rub or scrub at the stain, as this could damage the fabric. Instead, gently dab or press the cloth against the area to lift the stain.
Once you’ve removed as much of the vomit as possible, pre-treat the area with an enzymatic cleaner. This type of cleaner is specifically designed to target protein-based stains like vomit, so it can be very effective. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use and allow cleaner to sit on the garment for several minutes before washing.
Once you’ve pre-treated the stain, it’s time to wash. Use hot water and your regular laundry detergent. If the vomit stain is still visible after washing, repeat steps 2 and 3 before drying.
Once the garment is washed, hang it outside in direct sunlight. Sunlight can help to naturally fade stains and neutralize odors. Leave the garment to dry for an hour or two, then bring it back inside.
If the stain is still visible after drying, you may need to take additional steps to remove it. Try rewashing the garment, or soaking it in a solution of water and white vinegar.
Vomit stains can be difficult to remove, but it's possible with right tools and techniques. By following the steps outlined above, you should be able to eliminate vomit stains and odors and restore your Banana Republic clothing to its original condition.
