Steps for Cleaning Vomit Stains from Baking Dishes

  1. Remove as much of the liquid as possible. Use a paper towel to blot up any remaining liquid. Work from the outside of the spill towards the center to avoid spreading the stain.
  2. Scrub area with a paste made from baking soda and water. This will loosen any dried vomit that may be stuck to the surface. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing with warm water.
  3. Spray the affected area with a vinegar and water mixture. The acidity in the vinegar will help to break down any stubborn stains. Allow it to sit for a few minutes before wiping with a damp cloth.
  4. If the stain persists, create a stronger cleaning solution with equal parts baking soda, dish detergent, and hydrogen peroxide. Scrub the stained area with paste using a non-abrasive sponge or cloth. Rinse with warm water when finished.
  5. If stain still won't come out, you may need to purchase a specialized cleaner for baked-on messes. Make sure it's safe to use on your baking dish material.
  6. For stubborn rust stains, coat the areas with lemon juice or white vinegar and let sit for a few hours. Scrub the area with a nylon brush, then rinse and dry the dish.

Tips for Preventing Vomit Stains

  • If you suspect someone might be sick, have them place a cloth or paper towel on baking dish before using it.
  • When dealing with young children, it's a good idea to keep a few extra baking dishes on hand so you always have a clean one ready when needed.
  • Be sure to let the dish dry completely before putting it away. This will help prevent bacteria and mold growth.
  • If you have any doubt about effectiveness of your cleaning, consider replacing the dish altogether.
