The key to cleaning vomit stains on a backpack is to treat them quickly. If the stain has already dried, brushing off as much of the residue as possible before wetting the stain can make the process easier. Once surface is prepped, you’re ready to start removing the stain.

Method 1: Remove the Stains With Water and Soap

To use this method, begin by lightly wetting the stained area with water, then apply a small drop of an all-purpose cleaner directly to the spot. Let the cleaner soak in for a few minutes, then brush over the spot with a soft, clean cloth. Continue this process until the entire stain has been removed.

Method 2: Use Vinegar and Baking Soda

Combine equal parts white vinegar and baking soda, then apply mixture onto stained area. Let the mixture sit for around 15 minutes, then lightly scrub the stain with a dry, soft cloth. This should remove the majority of the stain, but you may need to repeat the process if necessary.

Method 3: Use a Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda Paste

Mix a paste of equal parts baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Apply the paste to the stain, allow it to sit for 15 minutes, then gently rub the stain with a soft cloth. Rinse the area with water and repeat as necessary.

Additional Tips

  • Always test cleaning solutions in an inconspicuous spot first, to ensure that they won’t damage the fabric of your backpack.
  • No matter which cleaning method you use, ensure that the area is completely dry after cleaning, to prevent mold and mildew growth.
  • Take extra care when cleaning textured or patterned surfaces, to avoid damaging the design.
