Using a spoon, spatula or paper towel, carefully scrape off as much of the vomit from the area rug as possible and discard it in a waste receptacle. Use a dry, absorbent cloth to blot the remaining moisture from vomited area.
Using a clean cloth, apply a small amount of pretreatment product specifically designed for carpet stains onto vomited area. Gently rub the pretreatment product onto stained area with the cloth with a circular motion and let it sit for 15 minutes.
Fill a container with warm water and carpet cleaner and dip a toothbrush into it. Gently brush the affected area with the toothbrush and then wipe and scrub the stained area with a clean, damp cloth. When the stain appears to be gone, rinse area with clean, lukewarm water and a clean cloth.
Use a clean, absorbent cloth to blot up any remaining moisture from the area rug. Place a fan at site of the stain to help dry the area quickly. For larger areas, you may need to set up a dehumidifier in the room for a few days to completely dry the rug.
