  1. Mix equal parts baking soda and white vinegar in a bowl. This creates a paste-like substance.
  2. Using an old toothbrush, gentle scrub the stain with the baking soda/vinegar mixture.
  3. Repeat until stain is fully removed.
  4. Once the stain is removed, brush the area with a soft-bristled brush to remove any remaining baking soda or vinegar residue.
  5. Put the wool garment in the washing machine, using cold water setting and adding a small amount of dishwashing detergent or wool wash.
  6. Finally, dry the wool garment according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Tips for Removing Varnish Stains from Wool

  • Before starting, test the baking soda/vinegar mixture on a small, inconspicuous area of wool fabric. This will let you know if it has any negative effects on the fabric.
  • If the stain is especially stubborn, leave the baking soda/vinegar mixture on the stain for up to 30 minutes before gently scrubing it with the brush.
