What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • A rag or cloth
  • Mild detergent
  • A toothbrush

Removing Varnish Stains

Mix one part white vinegar and two parts baking soda into a paste. Apply the paste to the stain using the tip of an old toothbrush, and let sit for several minutes. This will help loosen varnish and make it easier to remove.

Once the paste has had time to work, use a rag or cloth dipped in warm water to wipe away the mixture, and the varnish along with it. If the stain persists, do not use too much water - it could cause further damage to the shoes. Instead, try repeating the paste and wiping process as needed until the stain is removed.

Cleaning Shoes

To clean the entire shoe, mix 1-2 teaspoonfuls of mild detergent in a cup of warm water, and use a rag or sponge to gently wipe down the wedge. Be sure to pay close attention to areas where the varnish may have spread. Rinse the soap off of the wedge with a separate cloth dipped in warm water, and allow the shoes to air dry completely before wearing.
