Varnish stains on wallets can easily build up over time. Grease, dirt, oil and grime from everyday use can accumulate on the surface of your wallet and make it look old, grubby and stained. Luckily, with a few simple and inexpensive products, you can restore your wallet and make it look like new again.
How to Clean Leather Wallets
Leather wallets are often the most challenging to clean. But not to worry - it is possible! Here’s what to do:
- Inspect the wallet for any delicate areas or stitches that need to be handled cautiously.
- Gently dust away any dirt, dust and residue using a soft dry cloth.
- Apply a small amount of mild soap (like a mild hand soap) onto a damp cloth, and gently rub the leather in a circular motion.
- Rinse cloth, and then use it to wipe away the soap. Then, pat dry the leather with a clean, dry towel.
- When completely dry, apply a small amount of conditioner (a leather conditioner like beeswax works best) to the leather, rubbing it in with a soft cloth.
- Let it sit for a few minutes before buffing off the excess.
How to Clean Paper and Plastic Wallets
For paper and plastic wallets, the process is a bit different. Here’s what you should do:
- Mix a solution of one-part vinegar to two-parts water in a bowl.
- Dip a clean sponge into the solution, making sure to get it completely saturated.
- Gently wipe away any dirt, dust, residue, and stubborn stains using the damp sponge.
- Rinse sponge, and then wipe away the vinegar solution.
- Pat dry with a towel and let air-dry completely.
