Removing Varnish from Uniforms

  • Combine two tablespoons of liquid detergent with one quart of warm water and stir it to form a solution.
  • Dip a clean cloth or sponge into the solution and scrub the stain with it.
  • Rinse the area by rubbing it with a separate clean cloth or sponge soaked in cold water.
  • Allow the uniform to dry in a shaded area.

Cleaning Stubborn Stains

  • If the varnish stain is very stubborn, combine equal parts white vinegar and water in a bowl.
  • Dip a clean cloth or a sponge into the mixture.
  • Apply it directly on the varnish stain and let it sit for a few minutes.
  • Rinse uniform with cold water and rub the area with a damp cloth or sponge to ensure that all traces of the cleaning agent are removed.
  • Allow the uniform to dry in a shaded area.

Tips

  • Test any cleaning agent on a small area of the uniform before you use it on the entire stain.
  • Never rub the fabric forcefully as it may cause damage.
  • Do not use warm water to rinse the fabric as the heat may cause the stain to become permanent.
  • Ensure that the uniform is completely dry before ironing it.
