What You Will Need

  • Mild dishwashing soap
  • Glass cleaner
  • White vinegar
  • Cotton cloths
  • A soft scrub brush

Step 1: Mix the Soap and Glass Cleaner

Mix equal parts mild dishwashing soap and glass cleaner in a bowl. Use enough of each to create a thick paste, similar to the consistency of toothpaste. This will create an effective cleaning agent for breaking up the varnish stains.

Step 2: Apply the Mixture to the Stain

Use a cotton cloth to apply the paste to the stain. Make sure to really massage it into the stain, working it in well. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.

Step 3: Remove Paste

Lightly scrub paste off of the stain using a soft scrub brush. Be sure not to press too hard while scrubbing, as this could damage the surface.

Step 4: Rinse and Dry

Rinse the spot with warm water and use a cloth to dry it thoroughly.

Step 5: Use Vinegar if Necessary

If stain still remains, use white vinegar as a final step. Saturate a cotton cloth with white vinegar and lay it over the stain. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Then, use the cloth to gently scrub away remaining stain.
