Getting a varnish stain on your favorite swimming trunks is definitely not ideal, but don't worry: varnish stains can be removed, and it doesn't have to be difficult. Fortunately, you have several methods available to you that you can use to tackle the stain.

Option 1: Soak in Water and Vinegar

The first step is to create a solution made up of one part water and one part vinegar. Submerge the stained area of the trunks into the solution and let it sit for 15 minutes. Then, rinse the area with cold water. This method can help lighten the stain or remove it altogether.

Option 2: Spot Treat with Alcohol

You can also spot-treat the varnish stain with rubbing alcohol. Dab the stained area with a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol and let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing with cold water. The rubbing alcohol helps break down the varnish and allow it to be washed away.

Option 3: Try a Stain Remover

If those methods don't completely get rid of the stain, you can then try a commercial pre-treater or stain remover. Follow the instructions on the label and apply the product directly to the stain. Then, wash as normal and check to make sure the stain is gone. If it remains, repeat the process.

Varnish stains don't have to be a daunting challenge. With these tips, you should be able to easily clean varnish stains off your swim trunks and restore them to like-new condition!
