Varnish is a thick sealant that is used to protect and waterproof various surfaces. While it is incredibly useful for applications like wood furniture, it can be a bit of a headache when it gets onto clothes or other fabrics.

Follow these steps to help you get rid of pesky varnish stains on your favorite sweatshirt without damaging the fabric:
Mix a teaspoon of detergent with lukewarm water in a bowl. Make sure to use a gentle detergent so as not to damage the fabric of your sweatshirt.
Using a sponge or cloth, gently saturate stained area with the soapy water solution. Do not scrub as it can cause further damage.
Using a soft-bristled brush or toothbrush, very gently lift varnish stain from the fabric. You may need to repeat this several times before all of the stain has been removed.
Once the stain has been removed, rinse the area with lukewarm water. Be sure to use same circular motion used when applying the soapy solution to ensure that all excess is removed.
Finally, lay your sweatshirt flat and leave to air dry. Avoid using a dryer as it may shrink the fabric.
