If you notice a varnish stain on your sweatpants, it is important to act fast. The longer the stain sits, the more difficult it will be to get out. So, as soon as you can, run cold water over the back of stain. This will help keep the varnish from further penetrating the fabric.
Next, mix a small amount of warm water with a few drops of dishwashing soap and a teaspoon of white vinegar. Test this mixture on a small part of the fabric that cannot be seen. If any damage occurs, do not use the mixture on your sweatpants.
When the dabbing mixture has been tested, you are ready to begin dabbing stain with a clean cloth or sponge. Begin by lightly applying the mixture to the stain and gently blotting it until varnish has been removed. This may take several attempts until the stain is completely gone.
Once the varnish has been removed, place your sweatpants in a washing machine with a mild detergent. Make sure to follow the instructions on the tag for the best results. Then simply let your pants air dry after the cycle is finished.
Varnish stains can be tricky and persistent, but with right technique, they don’t have to ruin your sweatpants. With these four simple steps, you can easily get rid of stain and restore your pants to their former glory.
