Varnish is a thick coating used to protect surfaces like wood or nails from damp and decay. It's also used in many architectural projects, including furniture, cabinetry, and millwork. Unfortunately, it can also end up on your clothing, leaving behind a stubborn stain. While getting varnish out of fabric can be tricky, it's not impossible. Here's how to tackle those pesky varnish stains on your suede shoes:
Use a clean white cloth to blot the stained area. Don't rub the cloth, as this can cause further damage to material. Gently dab the stain until you have removed as much of the varnish as possible.
Once you've blotted away the excess varnish, it's time to apply white vinegar to the stained area. Put the vinegar onto a white cloth, then gently dab the stained area with the cloth. Make sure to only use enough vinegar to lightly dampen the suede, as too much can cause further damage.
Once you've applied white vinegar, use a dry cleaning solvent on stained area. Once again, make sure to only dampen the suede enough to remove the varnish stain. Allow the solvent to sit for 15 minutes before brushing off the stain with a soft brush.
Finally, use a white cloth to thoroughly clean the area. Make sure to pay special attention to the edges of the stain, as these can be stubborn spots for dirt and debris. Once the area is free of varnish, your suede shoes should be good as new!
