The first step is to act quickly- wet varnish stains are easier to remove than dry ones. If the stain is wet, use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe away as much as possible. Once most of varnish has been removed, you will need to apply a solvent such as white spirit or paint remover to break down the remaining residue.
Once the area has been rinsed with warm water, you can move on to dabbing the area with ammonia. Make sure to use a clean cloth or paper towel and be careful not to spread stain. When applying the ammonia, make sure to go gently. A light dabbing motion should suffice. Allow the area to sit for 10-15 minutes and then rinse with cold water.
If ammonia solution didn't work, try using some nail polish remover on the stain. Again, make sure to use a clean cloth or paper towel and lightly dab the area. Let the nail polish remover sit on stain for about 15 minutes and then rinse with cool water. Repeat if necessary.
If the nail polish remover didn't do the trick, you may need to try a stain blocking solution. This type of solution is specially formulated to block out stains and provide extra protection. Make sure to read the directions carefully and follow instructions provided. Allow the solution to sit according to instructions and then wash the slippers as usual.
Varnish stains can often be difficult to remove, but with the right approach and techniques, they don’t have to be too hard to tackle. By following the steps outlined above, you should be able to get rid of the varnish stains on your slippers with relative ease.
