Are varnish stains on silk taffeta ruining your look? Don't panic! Varnish removal from fabric can be done with several common household items.
Identifying the type of varnish used is the first step in removing it from the silk taffeta. Acrylic or polyurethane varnishes are commonly used on fabrics, and both types of varnish can be removed with commercial solvents.
Choose an inconspicuous part of the fabric and spot-test it with the commercial solvent. Second, let the solvent sit for a few minutes and then rinse with water. If the varnish begins to break down, then you may proceed with the full cleaning process.
If the spot test shows that the commercial solvent will work, apply the solvent liberally over the entire stained area. Allow the solvent to soak in for five to ten minutes before rinsing with cold water.
Heat setting involves placing the fabric with stain in a clothes dryer on low heat for 30 minutes. This is final step in ensuring that the varnish stain is completely removed.
Varnish stains can be a pesky addition to any fabric, but these four simple steps show you how to easily remove them from silk taffeta.
