What You'll Need

  • Dish soap or laundry detergent
  • Olive oil or vinegar
  • Cloth or sponge
  • Cotton swabs

Step 1: Prep the Area

To start out, it's important to make sure the area around the stain is as clean as possible. Use a cloth or sponge and mild dish soap or laundry detergent to clean the affected area and remove any surface dirt and debris.

Step 2: Apply Soap

Once the area is clean, apply a small amount of dish soap or laundry detergent directly onto the stain. Gently rub the spot with a cloth or sponge to work the cleaner into the fabric. Be careful not to scrub the fabric too hard as this could damage the delicate fibers.

Step 3: Rinse the Stain

Once you have applied the soap, rinse the stain with cold water until soap has been thoroughly removed. Continue to rinse the area until the water runs clear.

Step 4: Apply Oil or Vinegar

After the stain is rinsed, dab a few drops of olive oil or white vinegar onto spot and gently blot the area with a cloth. Allow the oil or vinegar to sit for 15-20 minutes before rinsing again.

Step 5: Clean with Cotton Swab

For more stubborn stains, use a cotton swab soaked in oil or vinegar to lightly scrub the area. Continue to apply oil or vinegar and lightly scrub until stain has been lifted.

Step 6: Repeat as Necessary

If necessary, repeat steps 2-5 until stain is gone. Once the stain has been removed, rinse the area with cold water until all of the cleaning agents have been removed.
