What You'll Need

  • A clean cloth
  • Lint-free swabs
  • White vinegar
  • Bucket of warm water
  • Dish soap
  • A clean sponge

How to Remove Varnish from Satin

  1. Using a dry cloth, dab at the stained area and blot as much of the varnish as possible.
  2. Wet two lint-free swabs with white vinegar and gently scrub the stain, being careful not to rub too hard.
  3. Fill a bucket with warm water and add a few drops of dish soap. Dip a clean sponge into the water and wring it out before using it to gently scrub the stain.
  4. Rinse off the soapy water with clean water. Let the water drip off before patting the area dry with a dry cloth or paper towels.

Additional Tips

  • Do not use any kind of harsh chemical cleaners – they could damage the fabric.
  • If the stain persists, you may need to take the fabric to a professional cleaner.
  • After cleaning, hang fabric up to air dry.
  • To prevent varnish stains in the future, make sure to keep your garments away from any materials that contain varnish.
