Before you start the cleaning process, make sure the stain is still wet. If it has dried, you'll need to moisten it. Dab the varnish stain gently with a damp cloth. Don't rub or scrub it as this will only spread the stain further. Keep blotting until no more of varnish is coming off onto the cloth.
Now you will need to use a pre-treatment solution on the stain. Choose a cleaning product that is designed for removing grease and oil. Spray the pre-treatment directly onto the stain and let it sit for 10 minutes. Use enough of the cleaner to completely cover the area.
After the pre-treatment has had time to work, put the sari into the washing machine with laundry detergent. Set the water temperature to warm, and turn spin setting to low. Let the sari cycle through the wash and rinse cycles. Inspect the fabric once the cycle is complete, and if stain is still there, repeat step two and three.
Once done, hang the fabric up to dry. Do not put it in the dryer, as heat may cause the stain to set permanently. Once the fabric is completely dry, check to see if the stain has been completely removed. If it has not, repeat the process until the stain is removed.
