What You'll Need

  • Clean cloths
  • Warm water
  • Mild laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Oil-based cleaning solvent (optional)

Step 1: Scrub the Stain with a Clean Cloth

Use a clean, damp cloth to scrub the stain in small, circular motions. If necessary, use a mild detergent to make the stain easier to remove.

Step 2: Rinse With Warm Water

Once you’ve scrubbed the stain, rinse with warm water. This will help to remove any excess soap or detergent that may remain on the shoe.

Step 3: Apply White Vinegar

In a separate bowl, mix one part white vinegar to four parts of warm water. Dip a clean cloth into mixture and apply it to the stain. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.

Step 4: Use an Oil-Based Cleaning Solvent (Optional)

If the stain is still visible after steps 1–3, use an oil-based cleaning solvent to remove it. Be sure to test a small area of the shoe first, as some solvents may cause discoloration or damage. Follow the instructions on the cleaning solvent’s label.
