Step 1: Gather Supplies

  • White cloth or paper towels
  • White sponge
  • Warm water
  • Mild detergent
  • Old toothbrush
  • Coca-Cola
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Rubbing alcohol

Step 2: Blot the Stain

Start by carefully blotting the stained area with a white paper towel, being careful not to spread the stain further. If the varnish is still fresh, you may also want to scrape off as much of the excess as possible using a butter knife.

Step 3: Soak the Stain

Create a soapy solution by mixing a mild detergent with warm water. Take a white sponge and soak it in solution for a few minutes before gently dabbing it onto the stained area. Be sure to avoid rubbing the stain, as this could cause further damage.

Step 4: Brush the Stain

Using an old toothbrush, gently scrub the stained area with the soapy solution. This will help to loosen the varnish and remove any traces of it from inside the fabric.

Step 5: Rinse with Warm Water

After scrubbing the stain, rinse the area with warm water and a white cloth. Then, blot dry with a paper towel.

Step 6: Use Coca-Cola

If the stain has not been completely removed, you can try soaking area with Coca-Cola for about 30 minutes. The acids and sugars present in this beverage can help to break down varnish and remove any stubborn stains.

Step 7: Use Hydrogen Peroxide and Rubbing Alcohol

Mix equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol and pour the solution onto stained area. Allow it to soak in for a few minutes before rinsing off with warm water.

Step 8: Air Dry

Finally, air dry the Ralph Lauren garment for several hours until completely dry. Once finished, your clothing should be looking as good as new!
