Start by laying the raincoat down on a flat surface in a well-ventilated area. Use a white cloth to gently dab the stained area until you’ve removed as much of the excess varnish as possible.
Using a soft sponge, apply dry-cleaning solvent to the stained area. Work the solvent into the fabric, making sure it covers the entire stain. Let the solvent sit for a few minutes, then use a dry white cloth to dab away the solvent and the stain.
Mix one part ammonia with two parts water in a basin or bucket. Dip a soft sponge in solution, and use it to gently rinse the stained area of the raincoat. Rinse until the water runs clear.
Hang the raincoat up to air dry, being careful not to place it in direct sunlight. If the raincoat isn’t completely dry after several hours, you can lay it flat on a clean towel to finish drying.
With these four easy steps, you can have your raincoat looking like new again. After the raincoat is fully dry, you can layer it with a coat of waterproofing spray for an extra layer of protection.
