Varnish stains can be stubborn, so the best way to tackle them is with a two-step process.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bucket or bowl
  • Gentle laundry detergent
  • A potato peeler
  • Soft brush

Step 1: Remove Excess Varnish

First, fill a bucket or bowl with lukewarm water and a few drops of gentle laundry detergent. Using a potato peeler, scrape away as much of the excess varnish as possible. Be careful not to damage the fabric of the raincoat.

Step 2: Brush Away Any Remaining Varnish

Once you’ve removed majority of the varnish, dip a soft brush in the soapy water and lightly scrub stain. Rinse off the raincoat afterwards and let it air-dry.

If the stain remains, repeat the process until it is fully gone. If it is still proving difficult to remove, you may need to take the raincoat to a professional dry cleaner.
