  • White vinegar

  • Warm water

Step One: Prep the Bed

Before attempting to remove the varnish stain, it is important to prepare the pet bed. Take the bed outside and vacuum it thoroughly. Use an upholstery attachment to get in all the small crevices, and shake any large debris out of the bed. Once finished, wipe surface of the bed down with a clean cloth dampened with warm water.

Step Two: Mix the Cleaning Solution

In a bucket or bowl, mix one part white vinegar with three parts warm water. Use a few tablespoons of borax and mix it into the solution. Stir frequently until all ingredients are mixed together.

Step Three: Apply the Solution

Dip a clean cloth into the cleaning solution. Gently rub stained area of pet bed with cloth. Use a small scrub brush if needed to work the solution into the fabric of the bed. Be sure not to scrub too hard, as this can damage the fabric.

Step Four: Rinse and Dry

Once the varnish stain is removed, rinse the spot with clean water to remove any remaining residue. Use a dry cloth to remove any remaining moisture and hang the pet bed to dry in a well-ventilated area. Allow the bed to dry completely before allowing your pet to use it.
